Before we get into this inspiring post…a warm welcome back to our General Manager/ Medical Aesthetician, Eliza Norton. We’re so excited Eliza is back from maternity leave, and we can’t wait to share some of what she’s learned during her time away…

Moms Adapt – Thrive – Shine!

Moms rock. They give a whole new meaning to multi-tasking. The old days meant preparing meals, doing laundry and feeding the baby while washing dishes, floors and helping older children with homework.

Today’s multi-tasking moms go way beyond the domestic front. Not only are they keeping up with the daily tasks on the home front, they’re working part- or full-time, too.

Juggling both home and career calls for the ever-increasing need to maximize each moment – tossing out what doesn’t work and being bold enough to break away from old habits just because ‘it’s always been done that way.’

And our very own Eliza is an ideal example of how moms adapt – thrive – and shine!

Having Second Baby Gives Birth to Empowering Change

Eliza, a 40-year old mom, just returned from maternity leave after giving birth to her second daughter. Her ‘oldest’ is one year! While on leave, she took a break from getting polished up for work every day and packed her makeup away for 3 months.

But that didn’t mean she stopped caring for her skin.

“I still focused on using the products I love – the Airelle line morning and night, and I always wear my sunscreen daily. I have always been comfortable in my own skin but I was surprised at how many compliments I received about looking younger and glowing. I was blown away, as I was really not getting much sleep or taking very good care of myself!”

Liking the Real You

Eliza admits when she looked in the mirror, she liked seeing her own skin instead of looking at foundation.

If she met with a client or went out to a family gathering, she usually put on just mascara -and that’s it.

“I looked fresh and it felt great. Everyone always seems to strive for natural beauty – I believe this is the kind of beauty and freedom that a lot of women wish for.”

Keeping That Good Feeling

When Eliza came back to work, she decided she wanted to maintain her lower maintenance lifestyle, maybe focusing on her eyes and lips with lipstick and mascara – but no more foundation, no cover up, and no powders.

She says the two photofacials she had since her baby was born have evened out her skin pigmentation, eliminated age/brown spots and made her skin youthful and glowing.

Eliza shares, “I think many women, especially women in Maine, can relate to a low maintenance look, but it doesn’t have to be all or nothing!”

Less is More

Eliza says keep the focus on the upkeep of your skin, to maintain its beauty. Famous singer Alicia Keys goes makeup free, explained Eliza, but has extensive treatments and products to make her skin photo ready. “And it’s worth it. It saves time and allows your fresh, beautiful self to shine through.”

Whether it’s a photofacial or any other treatment, Eliza says it’s truly an investment in yourself – your beautiful skin is yours and always will be – take care of it and treat it right.

“In this industry, I see a lot of really beautiful young girls with gorgeous skin, and they hide it with makeup. I see a lot of women I would love to give a make under. And I have found that with the photofacial treatments, it attracts a clientele that is low maintenance.

A lot of people will say to me, ‘I can’t believe I am doing this, it is so unlike me’ and I will say that it is perfect for you – taking care of your skin, preserving it from premature aging and taking care of YOURSELF does not mean that you are high maintenance, vain or narcissistic.”

Be Kind to Yourself

Eliza explains the simplicity of beauty:

“Spend your dollar on medispa treatments that are results driven and products that actually work – and save yourself money and time from investing in makeup and trying to emulate the look of healthy, clear, young skin.

“I completely understand what women are looking for and I feel that we have all the latest, state of the art technologies and products available to customize an amazing treatment plan for any woman here at Akari.

I know I have never felt more fresh and youthful than I do now.”

Wouldn’t every woman love to say that?
